The story

Nuba, a small white cloud, yawns over a field of flowers at sunset

A Sleepy Cloud

High up in the sky lived a small, white, soft cloud. Her name was Nuba.

Every morning she played with the wind. She floated up, floated down and stretched out like a fluffy blanket. But one evening, as the sun began to hide, Nuba yawned.

“I’m a little bit sleepy,” she said.

The wind blew gently and carried her over a field of flowers.

“Goodnight, flowers,” she whispered.

The flowers closed their petals. One daisy snuggled up to another, and a tulip bowed its head.

Goodnight, Little Fish

Nuba drifted on to a quiet lake. The water shone like a mirror.

“Goodnight, little fish.”

The fish hid among the plants. All that was left were a few bubbles rising one after another: plop, plop, plop.

Nuba winks at a baby watching from the bedroom window

The Baby’s Window

Later on, Nuba floated over a little house. In one of the rooms, a baby was getting ready for bed. The baby’s blanket was blue with yellow stars.

The baby looked out of the window. Nuba gave a wink, even though clouds don’t really have eyes. Sometimes imagining it is enough.

“Goodnight, little one,” said Nuba.

Nuba sleeps between two stars while the Moon lights up her edges

A Cozy Spot Between Two Stars

The Moon slowly appeared and painted the edges of the cloud silver.

“You can rest now,” the Moon told her.

Nuba found a quiet spot between two stars. She made herself small, soft and round. The wind stopped blowing and the sky fell silent.

Before closing her eyes, Nuba looked down at the Earth. The flowers were sleeping, the fish were resting and the baby was hugging the blanket.

“How lovely the world is when everyone is resting,” she whispered.

And Nuba fell asleep, floating softly while the Moon watched over the night.

Story guide for families and teachers

Nuba is a small cloud who plays with the wind all day long. When evening comes she grows sleepy, and before falling asleep she says goodnight to the flowers, to the fish in the lake and to a baby getting ready for bed. A short story for babies with a slow rhythm and repeated phrases.

Moral

Resting is also a way of taking care of ourselves.

What it works on

  • Bedtime routine: saying goodnight helps close the day.
  • Language: simple words, repetition and sounds that are easy to copy.
  • Calm: the rhythm of the story slows down little by little, just like your voice.
  • Bonding: a quiet moment to read together before bed.

After-reading activity

Before turning off the light, look out of the window together and find a cloud, the Moon or a star. Say goodnight to it like Nuba does, and then to two things in the room. If you do it every night, it becomes the signal that bedtime has arrived.

Frequently asked questions

What age is this story for?

For babies aged 0 to 2. Before their first birthday, what matters most is your voice and the rhythm of the sentences; from around 12 months, your little one will start to recognize the goodnights and the sounds that repeat on every page.

How long does it take to read?

About 2 minutes, reading slowly. You can make it longer by pointing at the pictures and making the sounds, or read just the last part if your baby is already very sleepy.

Why does a story like this help with sleep?

Because it repeats the same structure, slows the pace little by little and ends with everyone resting. That predictability makes babies feel safe and turns the story into a signal that the day is coming to an end.

Is there a book with my little one as the main character?

Yes. At Tiny Mango we create personalized storybooks where your little one is the main character, with their name and a 3D character created from their photo. They make a meaningful gift that gets read again and again for years.
